David Krasnow

Biography

Dave Krasnow is a registered U.S. Patent Attorney in Raleigh with more than 30 years of experience representing clients in complex chemical patent matters.  Dave’s background includes providing counsel on patents involving polymer chemistry, inorganic chemistry, optics, ocular science, pharmaceuticals, industrial gases, raw and specialty chemicals, coatings, refractory materials material deposition, medical devices, and many other fields.

Dave has handled virtually every aspect of patent issues – from prosecution to due diligence to rendering all varieties of intellectual property opinions.  Dave is well-versed in issues related to invalidity and infringement as well as advising clients in intellectual property and valuation matters in complex merger, acquisition, divestiture, and initial public offering activities.

Prior to joining Coats and Bennett, PLLC, Dave worked as in-house counsel for Bausch & Lomb, Inc. and practiced with firms in the Carolinas, New York, and Washington D.C.  Before law school, Dave served as an assistant clerk for the United States Supreme Court.

Outside of the firm, Dave frequently speaks on matters related to his IP practice and has taught advanced patent law courses at the University of North Carolina and lectured annually at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Dave is active in a number of professional organizations and founded the Triangle Intellectual Property Law Association in Raleigh, and twice served as its President. Dave has also served as a Director of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.

Dave earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Southampton College of Long Island University in New York and a law degree from the George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia.

Dave was named to NC Business Legal Elite Hall of Fame in 2010.
